The Delaware Company Awarded Grant
“A Divided Settlement” Exhibit-in-Progress Garners Funding
RICHMOND HILL, GA— The Barryville-based non-profit history education group, The Delaware Company is among the recipients of the 2023 Preserving America Grants awarded by Americana Corner.
The grant will be used to help fund a permanent exhibit at Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History in Narrowsburg, which is operated by The Delaware Company. The state-of-the-art exhibit will detail the history of the Cushetunk settlement’s divided loyalties during the American Revolution.
“The story of the tensions between the patriots and the loyalists within the Cushetunk settlement and the atrocities committed by each against the other is one that needs to be told, and we envision that this exhibit will do that,” said Sullivan County Historian John Conway, the president of The Delaware Company. “Our Board of Directors is committed to making Fort Delaware Museum a serious history venue by creating permanent exhibits, and we are grateful to Americana Corner for the financial help they are providing.”
The award announcement was made on February 22, in honor of George Washington’s birthday. Americana Corner is awarding $835,500 in grant funding this year to 119 organizations across 35 states. Due to overwhelming interest and the historic significance of the projects that sought funding, Americana Corner has pledged nearly double its 2022 commitment of $446,000. Tom Hand, founder of Americana Corner, said, “I am thrilled to be able to help others across America tell our country’s wonderful story.”
Awardees will receive up to $10,000 each from the Americana Corner Fund at DonorsTrust towards a diverse range of projects, including restoring historical objects, creating educational displays or making improvements to historic sites that will enhance the visitor experience.
Americana Corner was founded by Tom Hand in 2020 as an online resource to help others rediscover America’s incredible founding and first century of expansion. The Preserving America Grant Program assists organizations that tell the story of our nation’s wonderful past and rekindle a love for American history in all its splendor.
